The intensity of rain that has fallen since Sunday (5/12/2021) in Bali Province has caused several areas to experience flooding. The impact of the flood was felt by residents of Kuta area in Badung Regency and Denpasar City. Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Badung Regency I Wayan Wirya said the flooding was triggered by rain that had started on Sunday night (5/12/2021).

5 residents, including one toddler, were trapped by the flood in the Legian Traditional Village area, Kuta. They were evacuated by National SAR Agency on a rubber boat.

“The evacuation process was carried out with a rubber boat through the river by the personnel from the Bali Basarnas,” said Head of the Bali Basarnas Gede Darmada in a written statement, Monday.

In addition, flooding was also caused by the overflow of the Tukad Mati river in Kuta, Badung Regency.

“The Tukad Mati flow cannot speed up because the seawater is rising so that the river water level is rising, submerging the land,” said I Wayan Wirya.

Wayan added that the worst flood heights occurred in the Legian and Dewi Sri areas, up to one meter high.

Meanwhile, the Regional Disaster Management Agency carried out evacuations around Dewi Sri Street and handled fallen trees at several points, such as in Munggu village, Mengwi sub-district, Badung.

The areas in Badung Regency that were affected by the flood:

1. Kuta District

Jalan Nakula

Jalan Kunti

Jalan Yudistira

Sunset Road

Jalan Tukad Mati

Jalan Dewi Sri

2. South Kuta District

Jalan By Pass Jimbaran

The flood was reported to have entered the residents’ houses. A resident of Denpasar City, Saiful said, his house on Jalan Pulau Bungin 1 Number 14 Pedungan, South Denpasar has been flooded since Monday morning at 07.00. According to Saiful, the source of the flood came from the clogged gutter behind his house.

“Initially, the water came in from my kitchen, then it entered the living room to the bedroom. The puddle was about an adult’s foot high,” said Saiful.

He explained that this was the first time that flooding had entered his house in 2021 after the rainy season in Denpasar City. Several items in his house were also submerged in water, such as a TV, cupboard, and mattress.

Meanwhile, Ika Pujiati, a resident of Denpasar City who lives on Jalan Tukad Yeh Aya Gang IXH, said that her house was flooded, as high as an adult’s calf.

“The water entered the house this morning and was about the height of an adult’s calf. This is quite high compared to previous years,” she said.

“It’s been raining since last night at around 19.00, then the water entered the house this morning. It came from a river near the house which had overflowed because of the heavy rain,” she added.
