A foreign national from Italy named Albani Roberto (75) was arrested by the civil police unit (Satpol PP) of Badung Regency. The man was secured after begging for residents in Bali to fulfill his daily needs.

“According to him, he used to say he had a business here and lived in Canggu. Since the lockdown in Italy, his business stopped and he went bankrupt. He is also an artist,” said Head of Satpol PP Badung I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, on Wednesday (5 / 5/2021).

Suryanegara said that Albani Roberto was found sleeping in a storefront by residents and reported to officers. When met by Satpol PP on Jalan Benesari, Kuta, Legian, he seemed to be sleeping on the terrace of a resident’s house. Albani Roberto also admitted that he had no money and his identity card had disappeared.

“He said he had been there for almost a year since this pandemic. There must be someone who provided help,” he said.

Albani Roberto was finally secured by Satpol PP then handed over to Immigration for deportation.

Suryanegara hopes that residents will actively report if they find foreigners begging and having trouble in Bali due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If there is no report and support from the community, we will also find it difficult to distinguish whether he is on vacation or is begging. Now he has been taken to Immigration”, he said.
