7 bottlenose dolphins placed in large cages in the Mertasari Beach area are reportedly abandoned and sick.
It is known, the dolphin breeding place is on the coast of Mertasari Beach, Sanur. 7 dolphins are placed in large cages in the middle of the water. Getting there is not easy, you have to use a boat or boat on Mertasari Beach.
According to one of the activists, the dolphins belonged to a company located in Sanur. Previously, the mammals had been shown to tourists.
However, the company’s operations were closed on April 19, 2020, due to licensing problems. “It has no permit, so it is closed,” said an activist, Monday (26/4/2021).
According to him, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has put up a banner stopping dolphin demonstration activities in captivity.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has delegated Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) to relocate the dolphins. But for one year after being closed, the dolphins are still in the same location.
Other information stated that it was strongly suspected that during the closure of the company, the company was still showing the dolphin show secretly.
The activist hopes that the Bali BKSDA will immediately take firm steps regarding the dolphins’ existence. Moreover, several dolphins are sick and must be treated immediately.
