Inspired by the success of the Bali Cycling Marathon in 2020, this year the Bali Cycling Marathon 2021 will be held again. The event with the theme “Cycling for Health and the Awakening of Bali Tourism” will begin on April 10, 2021.
Chairman of ASITA (The Association of The Indonesian Tours And Travel Agencies) Bali Komang Takuaki Banuarta said, the Bali Cycling Marathon (BCM) 2021 is an effort to maximize Bali tourism and increase the culture of sports through activities that are attractive to tourists.
“But still prioritizing the health element. Organizing this event has finally become one of the examples of activities that were successfully held during the pandemic,” he said on Tuesday (6/4).
BCM 2021 wants to bring participants around to enjoy the island of Bali as a whole. So that BCM 2021 will be divided into 3 main series of events, namely BCM 2021 Journey Series, BCM2021 Virtual Edition, and main event Bali Cycling Marathon 2021.
The BCM 2021 Journey Series begins with a cycling marathon with a minimum distance of 84 km. Each series will only have 50 participants. This section will be held in Nusa Penida with the All Bike Series category on April 10, 2021.
Then in South Bali, the Seli Bike Series will be held on May 1, 2021. West Bali with the Fixed Gear Bike Series will be held on June 5, 2021. East Bali, the Road Bike Series will be held on July 3, 2021. Central Bali, Mountain Bike Series on July 31, 2021.
Next, the second series is BCM 2021-Virtual Edition. Starting in the period of 17 August to coincide with the commemoration of Indonesia’s independence day until 9 September 2021 which is a national sports day.
In this series, the Participant’s target is to gather 1.000 cyclists throughout Indonesia, with various types of bicycles, and open to the public, both individuals and communities. The minimum age of participants is 17 years.
“This section, where cycling for 23 days, can be done anywhere according to the participant’s area of origin, with a minimum distance of 42,2 KM and a maximum of 1.000 KM. The time is recorded digitally through an application that is automatically connected to the committee’s account,” explained Komang Takuaki Banuarta.
The third series, which is the Big event, was held in Nusa Penida from Saturday (16/10/2021) to Sunday (17/4/2021).
“BCM 2021 will involve cyclists and celebrities to participate in sports as well as travel and together to generate sports tourism in Bali, especially cycling sports tourism. As part of an effort to preserve the environment, BCM2021 also provides Water Stations in several locations on the island of Bali and Nusa Penida so that people can refill their drinking bottles so they reduce the use of plastic bottles, “he said.
