The health protocol enforcement operation was held again by the joint team at Jalan Batu Bolong, Canggu Village, North Kuta, Badung, Bali, on Sunday night. 10 foreign nationals were fined Rp. 1 million each for not wearing masks.

“Administrative fines are imposed on 10 foreigners. 2 USA foreigners, 1 Turkish foreigner, 1 German foreigner, 3 French foreigners, and 3 Russian foreigners,” said Head of Satpol PP (municipal police) of Bali Province, I Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi on Monday (5/4/2021).

Also, three foreigners were given summons because they could not pay fines on the spot. They are two foreigners from Russia and one person from the United States.

The joint team also reprimanded 31 other foreigners for not wearing masks properly and correctly. A Korean national is now detained by immigration.

“Those who were detained by immigration did not bring money and identity that could guarantee the payment of the fines,” explained Rai Dharmadi.

Apart from foreigners, Indonesian citizens were also caught in the operation to enforce the health protocol. Two Indonesian citizens have been fined Rp. 100,000 for not wearing a mask. Ten other Indonesian citizens also received verbal warnings from officers from the joint team for not wearing masks properly and correctly.

Rai Dharmadi said, his party together with the joint team consistently implemented health protocol enforcement following the mandate of Governor Regulation Number 10 of 2021 concerning the Application of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols as Efforts to Prevent and Control Corona Virus Disease 2019 in a New Era Life Order. One of the regulations stipulates that foreigners who do not wear masks will be fined IDR 1 million.

In total 40 foreigners in Bali were fined Rp. 1 million each for not wearing masks in raids that were held by Satpol PP from March to April 2021.

“Yes, 40 foreigners, active form (on) 21, 22, 23, 26 March and 4 April a total of 40 foreigners were fined Rp. 1 million,” said Dharmadi.

The foreigners, when exposed to inspection or activity from the joint team, had various reasons. Starting from forgetting to bring a mask, admitting that they don’t know or don’t understand the rules, and some don’t believe in Covid-19.

“There are various reasons, classic reasons, yes there are those who don’t believe it,” he added.
