The Bali Police will implement the use of traditional Balinese endek woven fabrics for Police Civil Servants and police officers who work in the public service department. The use of Balinese traditional and endek clothing will begin on March 1, 2021.
The Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Syamsi, said that the use of traditional clothing and Balinese endek woven fabrics applies to all National Police civil servants and police officers who serve in public service functions.
“The use of traditional clothing during working hours is implemented every Thursday, Purnama, and Tilem. While the use of Balinese endek woven cloth clothing during working hours every Tuesday unless it coincides with Purnama and Tilem,” said Syamsi in Denpasar, Tuesday (23/2/2021).
The notification of the plan to use Balinese traditional clothing and Balinese endek woven cloth was conveyed by the Bali Police Chief to his staff via telegram with number: ST / 152 / KEP. / 2021 dated February 19, 2021.
The use of Balinese endek is also a form of implementation of the Governor of Bali Regulation Number 79 of 2018 concerning the Day for the Use of Balinese Traditional Clothing.
It is also stated in the Circular of the Governor of Bali Number 04 of 2021 concerning the Use of Balinese Endek Woven Fabrics or traditional Balinese woven fabrics.
According to him, there are seven reasons behind the use of traditional clothing. First, namely to maintain and maintain the preservation of Balinese traditional clothing to strengthen identity, character, and character. Next, harmonize the function of traditional clothing in everyday life so that it is in line with the advancement of Balinese and Indonesian culture.
Third, recognize the aesthetic, ethical, moral, and spiritual values contained in Balinese culture to be used as an effort to foster and develop national culture.
“Balinese endek woven cloth or traditional Balinese woven cloth is a creative cultural heritage that must be preserved and protected. Then it is used as the identity of Balinese people with character and integrity,” he said.
The fifth reason, the endek Bali woven fabric has been recorded as a communal intellectual wealth of traditional cultural expression. Then, respect and appreciate the Balinese weaving cloth or the traditional Balinese weaving cloth as the creative cultural heritage of the community.
The last reason is to actively promote and market Balinese endek woven fabrics or traditional woven fabrics in various local, national, and international activities.
