Bali police managed to catch Interpol fugitive Andrei Ayer (Kovalenko), who escaped from the Special Immigration Office Class I TPI Ngurah Rai, Bali, on Thursday 11 February.
The head of the public relations department of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, said that Andrei Iyer was arrested this morning on February 24 at Villa Seminyak II, Umalas Street 1, North Kuta.
During the arrest, Andrei did not resist and was immediately taken to the immigration office.
The police also detained a Russian citizen, Yekaterina Trubkina, on suspicion of involvement in the escape of Andrei Ayer.
Earlier Andrei was serving a term in Bali after his arrest on October 1, 2019. Then, during the arrest in Kuta in the Shisha cafe, about half a kilogram of hashish was found on him. Ayer told police that he had purchased drugs on the Internet and did not know the seller. According to the police, he was selling goods to foreigners.
After his criminal conviction ended, on February 3, 2021, Andrei was transferred to the Special Class I TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office for deportation.
On February 11, Andrei was transferred from the TPI Class I detention cell to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Ngurah Rai. The transfer was carried out due to the limited number of places of detention.
During the translation administration process, the documents were processed. On the same day, Andrei was visited by a Russian woman Ekaterina Trubkina, who, according to the police, is his wife. At some point during the paperwork, Andrei left the room under the pretext that his wife wanted to feed him.
TPI First Class Immigration Officer Ngurah Rai Putu Sudana explained that at that moment the officers did not have time to respond to the request because Andrei quickly left the office.
After a while, employees started looking for him. According to the video surveillance records in front of the office, after leaving the room, Andrei immediately ran.
“The immigration officer wanted to follow him, the table interfered with him, the table was long, and he did not move so fast. Andrei went out the door as if he wanted to see his wife, but outside he just ran away,” explained Putu Sudana.
Putu said there were 3 immigration officers in the room at the time of the incident, two of whom were in charge of escorting Andrei. At the same time, the Russian was in the office without handcuffs.
To find Andrey, the Special Class I TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office formed a special team.
