Discussion on the Free Covid-19 Corridor or Travel Bubble to reopen Bali tourism for Manacanegara through a special scheme entering the final stage in the Central Government.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno explained that in the near future there will be a coordination meeting between Ministries and Regional Governments to discuss the traval bubble.
“Around March we will have a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Covid-19 Task Force, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and also the Regional Government, we are currently coordinating,” Sandi explained during a visit to Pandawa Beach on Thursday (11/2 / 2021).
Considerations in implementing the travel bubble by taking into account the daily Covid-19 case figures. “We will wait for the latest Covid-19 data, after the data is stable we can pilot this travel bubble project,” Sandi explained.
The Travel Bubble will later allow foreign citizens (WNA) who have been vaccinated in their home countries to travel to Bali. “The concept is still applying health protocols, when foreign tourists arrive in Bali they will still undergo rapid antigen to ensure they are free from Covid-19,” said Sandi.
To support this step, vaccination in Bali will continue to be intensified with a target of 1.2 million workers in the tourism sector. “With the vaccination target, we hope that it will be able to grow and raise public trust in Bali,” he explained again.
International tourism visits in Bali since the Covid-19 pandemic have indeed been closed to the International. This makes Bali tourism significantly affected. In 2020, for example, according to data from the Bali Central Statistics Agency (BPS), foreign tourist visits to Bali were only 1,050,505 visits. This figure decreased by 83.26 percent Year On Year (YoY) compared to 2019. This makes Bali’s foreign tourist arrivals in 2020 the lowest year.
As a result of the drop in foreign tourist visits, unemployment in Bali has risen drastically to 144,500 people. Badung Regency has the highest unemployment rate in terms of presentation, up 1,670.84 percent from the previous year (Year on Year) of 27,324 people.
